Robin Williams, a brilliant actor who could channel his energy into comic characters like “Mrs. Doubtfire” or harness it into richly nuanced work like his Oscar-winning turn in “Good Will Hunting,” died Monday, age 63.

As it has been reported, he was found dead at his home Monday morning in Tiburon, CA. The Sheriff’s Office has revealed that they believe the apparent cause of death to be a suicide due to asphyxia.

Today, investigators held a new conference, and here's all the new information that they just released.

The actor died of an apparent suicide by hanging as the Marin County Sheriff’s office confirmed. Robin was seeking treatment for depression before his death. He was last seen alive Sunday at 10pm by his wife who had retired for the evening. The next day, she left at 10:30am believing him to be asleep in a different room. However, later that morning, his personal assistant became concerned after he failed to respond to knocks on his door. He was then found clothed, slightly suspended, and in a seated position with a belt around his neck. The belt was secured between the closed closet door and door frame. His body was already cold and he was pronounced dead at 12:00pm by firefighters who arrived at the scene. The actor also had superficial cuts on his wrist, and a pocketknife was found nearby.

His official cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.

We're still completely stunned.

A legend taken far too early, way way before his time.
